The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE, is an important step in the graduate school or business school application process. The GRE is a multiple-choice, computer-based, standardized exam that is often required for admission to graduate programs and graduate business programs (MBA) globally.
GRE seems more difficult than ACT or SAT as the questions are designed for candidates who have completed their undergraduate. GRE verbal reasoning tests vocabulary through challenging reading passages, text completion, and sentence equivalence questions. GRE quant is comparatively easier than other competitive exams. The purpose of taking the GRE is to check the candidate’s level of academic excellence in undergraduate subjects. Few points to remember before taking GRE:
- GRE Computer Based Test is the GRE General Test taken on a computer at a GRE-designated test centre. Candidates should note that GRE Computer Based Tests are available in all countries that have access to the Internet and computer technology. This online form of the GRE test is the most widely used mode of appearing for the GRE General Test.
- GRE Paper Based Test is the GRE test that is taken offline in destinations that have limited access to the Internet or computers. The GRE Paper Based Test is the GRE exam taken on pen and paper. In India, candidates are required to opt for the GRE Computer-Based Test. There is no GRE Paper-Based test in India.
- GRE at Home Test: Most recently launched, the GRE at Home is the GRE General Test that can be taken in the safety of the candidates’ homes. launched during the pandemic, the GRE at Home is built on keeping student safety paramount and the GRE test has been designed to be conducted from Home as long as the candidate can meet the system requirements pre-determined by ETS and have a conducive environment during the entire duration of the GRE at Home Test.

Application Form
- Visit the official website of GRE by following this link- https://www.ets.org/gre
- You have to first create an account on the website by using your email Id and password
- After registering, the candidate must log in to the website followed by clicking on registration button
- A page will appear, Select the “GRE General Test” from the dropdown and search for nearest test center
- Now you will be prompted with selection of the preferred date and time which you can select based on your preference
- Now preview page will appear and can be changed if something is wrong and click next
- Now fill the background information correctly and click next
- A window with test preparation item will be displayed and you can choose the preparation item by adding it to your cart followed by proceed to checkout button you can also add promotional code (if any) on the next step and click on pay now button
- You will be provided with many options to pay fee- using credit/debit card, paypal and US bank transfer, etc.
- Enter payment information and click on buy button
- A conformation page with information will appear followed by an email with conformation of purchase
GRE Exam Pattern
GRE Exam Pattern for both computer-based and paper-based are different. GRE Exam Pattern for the computer-based exam is adaptive in nature. GRE General Test format has 3 different sections namely, GRE analytical writing assessment, GRE verbal reasoning, and GRE quantitative reasoning. All these sections have 2 subsections. The total time span for GRE General Test is 3 hours 45 minutes. The three main sections of the GRE general test are as follows

Admit Card
- Be an original document; photocopied documents are not acceptable and documents cannot be presented on a cell phone or any other electronic device
- be a government-issued national/state/province identity card that is recognized by the country in which applicants are a citizen or permanent resident
- be valid; expired documents (bearing expiration dates that have passed) are not acceptable
- bear the first and last name exactly (excluding accents) as it was when registering for the test
- include a recent, recognizable photograph
- include a signature (the name and signature on the ID document must match)

GRE 2024 Counselling
Although there is no process for GRE Counselling, the exam score is used as a parameter while applying for universities. But you might need other documents along with the score while applying for university.
- Documents Needed Along with GRE Score: You will need a Letter of Recommendation (LoR), Statement of Purpose (SOP) and your previous degree scorecard.
- Letter of Recommendation (LoR): You should provide an LoR from a close working associate or a renowned person will boost your resume.
- Statement of Purpose (SoP): You should provide an SoP expressing your interest in the course, why you want to study there and why you should be offered admission into the course. This gives you a platform to express your interest in a particular course.
- Qualifying/Qualified Degree Scorecard: You should provide your scorecard/marks sheet of the qualifying/qualified degree.
