The foundation of Sanskrit College was laid during the British regime based on a recommendation by HT James Prinsep and Thomas Babington Macaulay. It was under the auspices of Rt. Honorable William Pit Amherst that John Paskal Larkins Esquire, a scholar of oracular knowledge laid the first foundation stone of the college in 1824.. The Sanskrit College and University is a state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It focuses on liberal arts, offering both UG and PG degrees in Sanskrit language, Bengali, English etc.  The college has a library of distinction and scholarship comprising of more than 2 lakhs books and more than 20000 manuscripts including some rare ones. Noted for its immense historical importance the library is frequently visited by several scholars and academicians across the world for research purposes.

Reservation Details

  • Reservation Details relating to the undergraduates
  • For SC and ST – 22% and 6% respectively of the total seats of the worried about the subject.
  • For people with Disability: Reservation of 3% seats available for PWD within each respective category (SC/ST, OBC-A, OBC-B / unreserved) of the concerned subject.
  • For OBC-A/OBC-B: Percentage of seats for these categories have been fixed as per government rules.
  • Reservation Detail for postgraduates
  • For SC and ST – 22% and 6% respectively of the aggregate seats of the concerned subject.

Counseling

  • After the publication of Merit List 2024, candidates will be called for Counseling.
  • Candidates will have to present at the reporting college for document verification.
  • The schedule of the counseling will be published on the official website.
  • Visit the college with all the required documents.

Eligibility Criteria

UG Program
Intermediate graduate with 60% marks in aggregate and 60% in Sanskrit

PHD Program
Graduated with 45% marks from any recognized University
