TIFR GS is a nationwide entrance exam conducted by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in order to provide admission to candidates in postgraduate Science courses offered by it. Through TIFR GS, candidates are offered admission in 5-year integrated MSc courses and PhD programmes that are offered at the institute.

TIFR GS Eligibility

Mathematics:

• For Ph.D: M.A./M.Sc./M.Tech.
• For I-Ph.D: B.A./B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. (Students already having/completing an M.Sc. degree are not eligible)

Physics:

• For Ph.D: M.Sc./M.S. in Physics, or equivalent, on completion of programmes(s) of duration not less than 5 years in total.

For I-Ph.D:

• B.Sc./B.S./B.E./ B.Tech./B.Chem.in Physics, Engineering Physics, or equivalent degree. On completion of programme(s) duration should not less than 3 years in total.

Chemistry:

• For Ph.D.: M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.Pharm.
• For Ph.D.: B.Sc./B.Pharm.
• Candidates with B.E./B.Tech degrees can optionally get an M.Sc. degree by fulfilling necessary requirements

Biology:

• For Ph.D.: Masters in Basic Science or Bachelors in Applied Science.  These include M.Sc.(Ag.), B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B.Pharma. (4 years course), MBBS, BDS, M.Pharma. Candidates will be short-listed for interview based on written test marks, CV and Scientific Writeup.
• For I-Ph.D./M.Sc.: Bachelors in any Basic Science.
• For Ph.D. Program in TCIS: M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

Computer 

• For Ph.D : B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech./M.C.A./M.Sc. degree holders in Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics & Communications Engineering / Electrical Engineering.  Exceptionally well qualified students with B.E./B.Tech./M.E./ M.Tech./M.Sc./B.Sc. or equivalent degrees in other disciplines may also be considered.

How to apply for TIFR Exam 2024?

Step 1:  Visit the official website.

Step 2:  Find the application link and click on the “Apply Online” button.

Step 3:  After that, fill in the required details to register yourself for the exam.

Step 4:  Once the registration process is done, fill in all the personal and educational details correctly and click on the submit button.

Step 5:  Now, your form has been successfully submitted. Take the print of the application for further use.

The details to be mentioned in the form are-

1. 10th and 12th mark sheet.
2. Graduation marks.
3. Scanned copy of the photograph.
4. Scanned copy of the signature.

Exam Pattern

TIFR GS Exam Pattern for Mathematics

• Duration of the exam: The test is now of 03 hours duration
• Type of Questions: There are 02 types of questions in the test which are Objective type MCQ and true/false questions.
• Number of Questions: There are 20 true/false and 20 multiple-choice questions.
• Standard of the test: It is mainly based on mathematics covered in a reasonable B.Sc. course in Mathematics.

TIFR GS Exam Pattern for Physics

• Questions: Objective type MCQ
•  Questions: The questions are based on the topics studied at the Undergraduate and Masters levels at an Indian University.
• Marking: For every correct answer in Multiple-choice questions, 3 marks are given, whereas, for the Numerical and Symbolic section, 5 marks are given for the correct answer.
• Negative Marking: There is a negative marking of 1 mark in the MCQ section only.

TIFR GS Exam Pattern for Chemistry

• Questions: Objective type MCQ
• Questions: 40
• Duration : 3 hours
• Marking: For each correct answer, 3 marks will be given.
• Marking: For every incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

TIFR GS Exam Pattern for Biology

• Type of Questions: Objective type MCQ
• Standard of the test: The test will cover the basics only in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.

TIFR GS Exam Pattern for Computer & Systems Sciences

• Duration : 3 hours
• Questions: MCQ
• Marking: There is a negative marking of 1 mark for every incorrect answer.

TIFR GS 2024 Admission Procedure

Admission of candidates will be done on the basis of their performance in the written entrance examination and then personal interview session. Applicants have to perform well in TIFR Nationwide Entrance Examination if they desire to get admitted in it.

TIFR GS 2024 Hall Ticket / Admit Card

The candidates can download TIFR GS 2024 hall ticket from univ.tifr.res.in. The hall ticket releases at the candidate’s login. The candidates are required to carry the printout of the hall ticket to the exam centre. It is an important document that must be kept safe till the end of the admission process. Details like exam date, timings of the exam, address of the exam centre etc are mentioned in the admit card.

How To Download TIFR GS Admit Card 2024?

• Step 1: Go to the official website of TIFR GS – tifr.res.in.
• Step 2: On the homepage, click on the “Student Login” option.
• Step 3: Select the “Click Here” option underneath the “Already Registered” section.
• Step 4: Enter the login credentials – User ID and Password.
• Step 5: Submit the details by clicking on the “Login” option.

Result

TIFR GS 2024 result is being released in the month of February. The result of TIFR GS 2024 is released in the form of an interview shortlist for the different courses and institutes. The interviews will be held from March to May. The entrance exam was conducted on December in 38 cities across India in a paper-pencil based mode.
