Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is an offered Full-time Doctoral program and it is offered by Vel’s Institute of Science Technology and Advanced Studies, Chennai. Ph.D. program shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned.
VELS University Ph.D Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s degree in relevant subject from a recognized university.
- At least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale should be secured in the qualifying examination.
- A relaxation of 10% of marks, from 55% to 45%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled.

VELS University Ph.D Selection Process
Selection for Ph.D will be based on the entrance examination and interview conducted by the university.
- Initial merit list will be uploaded by the university according to the performance in written exam.
- Selected candidates will be invited for interview
- The interview/viva voce will also consider the following aspects:
- The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research
- The research work can be suitably undertaken at the institution/college
- The proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
- Priority will be given to qualified UGC-NET(including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder or M.Phil Degree.
