Playing locally means that you and your friends (up to five players) can play within the same world–but only when you’re all connected to the same Wi-Fi connection. Within your game settings, toggle the “Local Server Multiplayer” switch to on. For your friends to join, they must tap “play” and select the new world (highlighted in blue) that’s appeared at the top of their list.
All of the platforms that run Minecraft Bedrock Edition can play together. This includes the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and mobile devices. You will need a Microsoft account in order to do this. Your Xbox account, if you have one, will work fine. Otherwise you can make one for free right here.
Original Minecraft
However, if you want to play the original pre-release game, Mojang released Minecraft Classic for the game’s 10-year anniversary. This version is based on the browser-based alpha version of the game, a great bit of nostalgia for the original Minecrafters out there.
Moving on to similar games, there’s plenty of sandbox games in this genre. Some of these games are self-claimed Minecraft Clones like Mine Clone 3, which features many similarities with the original game.
How to Play Multiplayer on Minecraft
There are a few ways to play Minecraft with friends (or even complete strangers). A smaller group may opt to play on a local network, using a LAN connection that requires almost no technical knowledge. Advanced users can access a vast number of servers or create their own, each with different rules and cheats enabled to allow for more in-game freedom. The Realms edition is entirely online but has some caveats, while the special education edition was built with online play in mind.
The basics of Minecraft multiplayer
Minecraft gives users four different ways to connect with each other, each one with its own advantages and disadvantages. But before you jump into a game with your friends, it’s important to verify that all players attempting to join the multiplayer session are running the same version of the game. This means you’ll want to check that your version is updated with the latest content patches; otherwise, you’ll run into some bumps while trying to meet up with your friends.

- Choose a game mode: Survival, Creative, or Adventure.

- Other players on the same network who want to join can now start their games and connect via the Multiplayer button.
Minecraft Classic Is a Piece of Gaming History
Let’s not kid ourselves here; Minecraft Classic cannot compete with the current version of the game. Still, it’s free, and can be played in your web browser with no effort on your part. So you may as well take the opportunity to sample a piece of gaming history.
Follow these instructions to configure Minecraft for the offline game mode:
- First, you have to open Minecraft (by running the Minecraft Launcher, perhaps).
- Once the Minecraft window comes up, you have to select SinglePlayer.
- Here, you must choose a game or select Create New World.
- Now, you must click on Create New World.
- Fill the box for the name of the world with your preferred name and then select Game mode.
- Here, you must click on Create New World.
Selecting the correct mode
Minecraft offers a plethora of modes for its users.
- Survival mode: in this, the user is generated as a random character, and they need to survive by collecting and mining necessities.
- Create mode: the user is provided with all the tools for survival, and they need to keep creating different worlds.
- Adventure: users clear quests and missions to achieve an ultimate goal.
- Spectator: the user is an invisible spectator who is just present to observe other worlds.
- Hardcore: This is the hardest level of the survival mode, where the players can die permanently without revival.
