First, hover the mouse cursor over the meeting screen to reveal a hidden bar with personalization choices.
Step 2: To stop people from seeing your disorganised background, click Stop Video.
Step 3: Click the upward arrow on the Stop Video button.
Step 4: Choose Video Settings from the context menu…
Step 5: In the Settings box, choose the Background & Effects tab from the left sidebar.
Step 6: From the Virtual Backgrounds menu, choose Blur in the right pane.

Update Zoom.
If you haven’t updated the Zoom app in a while, you might not find the option to blur your background. Checking for updates only takes a few seconds, and running the update is just as fast:
- Click your profile photo or initial at the top-right.
- Click Check for updates.
- If an update is available, click Install. Zoom will install the update quickly and you won’t have to restart the app.
Enable the setting during a meeting:
- Join your Zoom meeting as usual.
- At the bottom-left of your window, there is a video button used to start or stop video on Zoom.
- Next to the button, click on the Up arrow symbol.
- Select Blur My Background.
How to change backgrounds in Zoom
- Open the Zoom desktop application and sign in.
- Click on your profile picture at your top-right corner.
- Select Settings > Background and Filters
- Under the Virtual Background tab, click one of the available images to select it as your background.
- To upload a custom image, click on the plus button in line with the Virtual Background tab.
- Select Add Image and upload.
- Once the image is uploaded, it can be selected as your background.
- Don’t forget to Save your changes before exiting the Settings window.
Change Zoom Settings to Blur the Background Using Mac
Launch Zoom and sign in to your account.
Towards the top-right, click on the “Settings” gear icon option.
In “Settings,” select “Backgrounds & Filters.”
Then select the “Blur” option, your background will appear blurred straight away.
Enabling Virtual Backgrounds on Zoom
- Go to Zoom’s website and log in with your account.
- After logging in, you will see the “Settings” option in the left panel.
- Find the “In Meeting (Advanced)” section. It is near the bottom of the panel.
- Turn on the “Virtual background”. You will then see the Virtual Backgrounds option on your desktop and mobile apps.
How to Blur the Background in Zoom From Computer
- First of all, make sure you’re using the Zoom desktop client (app) on your computer.
- Now, click on the profile picture and select Settings.
- Once it opens, choose Backgrounds & Filters.
- Click on Blur to make your Zoom background obscure.
Additional Points to Remember
- The blurred backdrop setting will thereafter be your default setting for all upcoming meetings.
- You can turn off this background by selecting None from the virtual background area.
- If you can’t find the Blur option, make sure you have the right Zoom desktop programme version and all the required technical requirements.
How to Add Your Background to Zoom
After choosing the desired background, it’s time to set it as your Zoom background.
Step 1— Open Zoom on your device and sign into your account.
Step 2: Navigate to your profile and select Settings.
Step 3: Select Virtual Background from the left menu. If this option isn’t available, sign in to the Zoom website, select Settings, and turn on Virtual Background.
Step 4: To upload your video, click the tiny Plus button and select Add Video.
