Turn off the minimap in Visual Studio Code

The minimap in editors like Sublime and Visual Studio Code are cool, but if you’re on a smaller screen or a screen with a higher screen resolution it can become easy to ignore. So why not turn it off! /shrug

The latest versions of the vscode editor added this to the menu bar, the minimap option can be accessed as shown below

  • Go to View menu
  • Check or uncheck to show or hide minimap.

Settings for Older vscode versions

For older versions of vscode, where you do not have this option in the menubar, can be changed from here:

  • Open the vscode File menu.
  • Click Preferences.
  • Click Settings.
  • In the search settings, search for editor.minimap.enabled
  • Uncheck – Controls whether the minimap is shown.

Step 1st: Start your VSCode editor.

Step 5th: Find the “editor.minimap.enabled” option and disable it.

Step 6th: Doing it like this saves your selection automatically, so you won’t have to worry about the VSCode editor minimap popping up again.

Step 2: Go to the “File” menu.

Step 3: Click the “Preferences” button.

Step 4: Select “Settings.”

Step 5: Look for the “Minimap” option and uncheck the “Controls Whether the Minimap is Shown”.
