In 1846 Loreto Convent, Darjeeling was founded. In 1872 six nuns from the Darjeeling Community led by Mother Joseph Hogan, the Foundress of Loreto, Darjeeling, faced the arduous journey by bullock cart to open Loreto Convent, Lucknow. Loreto School to promote the glory of God, lovingly discerning God’s will by endeavoring to fulfill Mary Ward’s Vision of education for girls where the value of love, freedom, sincerity & justice are experienced & lived out by all. The medium of instruction in this institution is ENGLISH. Hindi is taught as the second language from Classes I – X and is optional in Class XII. Sanskrit, as the third language is compulsory from Classes V – VIII.
